Welcome note from the President

I would like to congratulate and extend my deepest gratitude to the previous leadership of APMBSS, who have established and taken the society to its present eminent position as the cornerstone in the field of metabolic and bariatric surgery. The very essence of APMBSS has been that of unified progress based on a cohesive amalgamation of broad-based scientific ideas of the entire surgical community in Asia- Pacific region.

Asia Pacific region is doubly burdened by the unique problem of a rising trend of severe obesity compounded by the highest rate of Type 2 DM in the world. This provides us with the ideal cohort for future holistic research in the field of metabolic surgery. Keeping in mind the diversity of this region, collaborative research would go a long way in addressing this problem in an all-encompassing manner.

In view of the high burden of disease, it is extremely essential to equip the future generation of surgeons with the skillset and knowledge to deal with this multifactorial disease, therefore making Teaching and Training the primary objective of the society.

I thank the society for the privilege of this leadership. I look forward to serving with dedication and commitment, upholding the objectives of collaborative excellence in all its endeavours. I look forward to a productive tenure which best benefits APMBSS.
